我選擇「呆」作為這作品的主題，以表達我對現時香港打機文化的看法。香港的打機文化實在很有趣，你只要一踏入港鐵車廂或是在McDonald’s餐廳坐一坐，你一定會找到一些人手上拿著一台遊戲機，埋頭苦幹地打電玩。看著他們的姆指和食指不停運動著，面上露出呆滯的目光盯著遊戲機的螢光幕，我彷彿看見一個大大的「呆」字就寫在他們臉上。在這作品中，我參考了「普普藝術」的作品《瑪麗蓮夢露》，利用畫面的重複性及運用強烈的對比色來突出畫面。作品中7個重複的人，代表著那些在車廂、在餐廳埋頭苦幹打電玩的人。7個人像上「呆」字的筆劃順序，代表著打機文化已在香港漫延。我運用不同的對比色來吸引觀賞者的目光，並採用點描法繪畫人像，增加其立體感。
I choose “Boring” as the theme of this art work to express my feeling of Hong Kong’s culture of playing electronic games nowadays. It is really interesting, when you step in to the MTR compartment or walk in to the McDonald’s restaurant, you must see someone holding a PSP or NDS and playing it intensely. Watching them keep moving their thumbs and first fingers, gazing at the screen of the PSP and NDS woodenly. I could see the Chinese word「呆」written on their faces.
In this art work, I have studied the paintings of Pop Art “Marilyn” on how to make the art work outstanding by using repeating images and strong contrasting colours. I used seven repeating image to express they are playing electronic games together. The contrasting colours were used to lead viewers’ sight towards the art work. The dots were used to make the images more three-dimensional.
